Chinese garlic is sprayed with pesticides AND its resprayed to get it past quarantine. It isn’t half as nice as purple garlic grown here and if you can grow it yourself that’s even better.
Its expensive to buy here because the crops are often weeded by hand and take a fair bit of maintenance. If you can find some from a farmers market, all the better…. around Easter plant it and by November you’ll be enjoying it! Just keep it weed free… and a bit of manure to keep it going. Mine liked a mulch too as the weather got drier down here in Vic.
I think one of my favourite things to do with garlic is to roast it… the creamy flesh is divine in mayo, dressings, creamy soups or just on toast with olive oil.
